Living in the Word is a sermon by Jim Fryer.

Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Introduction:

Spending time with the Master not only requires that we Pray in Faith but that we Live in the Word. You should notice right here that both Praying in Faith and Living in the Word make up our vertical relationship with God.

The strength of our vertical relationship determines how effective our horizontal relationships are.

Here are some suggestions on how to Live in the Word.

1. Read your Bible.

Rom 4:3 For what saith the Scripture?

Pastors and full time workers both need to read their Bibles just as much as the average church member. Reading your Bible is so important that if you don't read it every day you cannot continue to claim the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Sound radical?

Let me explain. The Bible says that we should renew the inward man day by day. How do we renew the inward man? Be ye transformed by the RENEWING of you mind. Acts 17:11 says the Bereans searched the scripture DAILY. No one in their right mind can excuse the lack of DAILY BIBLE READING. Get to it!

2. Study your Bible.

2Ti 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Now the next step in your spiritual growth is studying your Bible. We study by book, we study by themes, we study by repetitive words, etc. Studying mean you investigate the meaning of a passage with the purpose of applying it to your life. For the general student of the Word of God let me suggest that you find a study Bible that will help you. Here are several suggestions.

    a. The Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible
    b. The Scofield Reference Study Bible
    c. John MacArthur's Study Bible
    d. The Life Application Study Bible

3. Meditate on your Bible.

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Perhaps the partner to reading and studying your Bible is to meditate on what you have discovered. Meditate means to "repeat to yourselves." In other words, "chew" on the teachings you have discovered. "Digest" what you have discovered. Do what you have discovered and make it part of your daily living...Living in the Word.

4. Listen to others teach the Bible.

Act 18:11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

1Th 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Now I cannot stop this sermon without telling you that self study in not all that you need for the Bible to have full impact on your life. Someone needs to guide you. The local church is the primary place to find Biblical instruction. The Sunday School, Home Bible Studies, a one-on-one study group are all ways to receive instruction.

Perhaps the most popular way is to attend preaching. The Bible says clearly that the early church "Daily in the Temple and from house to house we ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."

Conclusion:

Have you read your Bible Today? Get to it!

His Word will change you.

You have His Word on it!
