Ministers are the MESSENGERS.

Ministers are the messengers in ministry, but how do we know in what area of ministry to serve? Ultimately, it is God's decision but He gives us indicators that help us know what He has wired us to do for Him.

First of all God gives us a personality. Part of this is hereditary and part of it is learned from our parents and those we live around. It is also affected by our circumstances. Some of us are introverted and some of us are extroverted.

This will make a big difference in determining how we fit into the ministry. For example, you might not want an outgoing jokester...an in-your-face comedian type as the chaplain for a funeral home! However, I've seen a lot of youth pastors with this kind of personality and it was a perfect fit.

Second, God gives us talents. We seem to have some talents that we are born with and some that we develop. The bottom line is that there are things we can actually do as ministers, some of which may seem secular and not sacred, at first glance. God likes to use those natural talents for His glory.

Third, God gives us experiences as we grow up and as we get older that we can draw from. Some of these experiences are good and some of these experiences are bad, but God can use them all to help us fit into the ministry He wants us in. Some of these experiences help develop us and some actually help define us.

Fourth, God gives us spiritual gifts that allow us to get involved in spiritual ministry and actually help further God's Kingdom. Spiritual gifts mean that the Holy Spirit is involved in my life and I must follow Him to use His gifts properly.

Fifth, God gives us a passion. What is it that you love to do? What is your passion? We need to figure out what we love to do; figure out how to make money doing it; then, do it the rest of our lives.

Of course, the qualification of that philosophy is that you are already walking with God when you make that decision. That way you won't do anything illegal or unscriptural or even unfruitful. Your passion will include pleasing the Lord in some unique way.

Your uniqueness will depend on the combination of your personality, your talents, your experiences, your spiritual gifts, your passion, and your willingness to give all of that to the Lord and let Him use you...the real you.
