INTRODUCTION: When we look at our possessions can we say that we are in control or that our possessions control us? Do we have to have the best of the best or the name brands? Is our main goal to keep up and have more than the Jones next door? Are we ungrateful for what we have and worry about how we are going to buy more?

The Bible shows us how to get a grip on our possessions. It shows how Christ can give us strength over the consuming power of material things. God gives us assurance so that we will not have to worry about anything. And through others God can change our attitude about possessions and make us grateful for what we do have.

THEME: ARE WE CONTROLED BY MATERIAL POSSESSIONS?

I. WE ARE CONTROLLED BY MATERIAL POSSESIONS IF THEY CONSUME US. Luke 12:23

  1. Material Possessions Can Consume Our Time.
    1. We need to use our time wisely.
    2. Our time needs to be divided by priority.
NOTE: God and our families should take 1st priority in our lives.
    3. Our time on earth is short.
    4. We cant get wasted time back.

  2. Material Possessions Can Consume Our Thoughts.
    1. Our thoughts should be pure.
NOTE: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
    2. Our thoughts should be on God.
NOTE: Pray without ceasing. I Thessalonians 5:17
    3. Evil actions start with evil thoughts.

  3. Material Possessions Can Consume Our Money.
    1. For the love of money is the root of all evil. I Timothy 6:10a
    2. Our money belongs to God because he gave it to us.

III. WE ARE CONTROLLED BY MATERIAL POSSESSIONS IF THEY MAKE US UNGRATEFUL. I Timothy 6:8

  1. Material Possessions Make Us Ungrateful When We Do Not Appreciate What We Do Have.

    2. Some things are not fully appreciated until we do not have them any more.

CONCLUSION: Are we controlled by material possessions? Do material possessions consume us? Do material possessions make us worry? Do material possessions make us ungrateful?

Do material possessions consume your life? Will you come today and ask God to be the center of your life?

Do material possessions make you worry? Will you give over your worry to God and trust Him from day to day?

Do Material possession make you ungrateful? Will you ask God to open your eyes and let you appreciate what you have and help those who are not as fortunate as you?
