Matthew 9:9-13
We are commanded to go into all the world but also commanded to not be conformed to the world. A key factor in spiritual growth is being able to go into the world without the world going into you.
1. The Command (Matthew 9:9)
The simple command "follow me" was enough. Jesus said my sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.
2. The Company (Matthew 9:10)
Publicans and sinners! That would probably not look too good on an activity report for ministry in a Christian school. There is a difference between being separated and being isolated. By the way, does anyone still do activity reports?
3. The Complaint (Matthew 9:11)
Guess who is complaining? Religion always criticizes real Christianity.
4. The Comment (Matthew 9:12-13)
(a) Appeal to experience (12)
(b) Appeal to Scripture (13)
(c) Appeal to authority (13)
5. The Caveat (II Corinthians 6:14-18)
There is a limit. You have to be with them to win them but you do not have to join them to win them.
