The Faith Of A Child

by Richard Allen Kent
(Sullivan, Indiana, USA)

The faith of a child is wonderful. I don’t think anyone on earth would refute this. Children, being so full of innocence, they soak up everything around them as they learn. They Trust and believe solely because they are told, and never for a second doubt. The Word of God says in Mark 10-15: “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

As we grow much of that innocence and undoubting faith seems to leave us. The cares of this world and the problems we face in life often change us and seem to harden our hearts a little more as the years go by. Somehow things are different. I suppose it is partially due also to the opposing side, constantly shouting it's opposition to what we believe.

Perhaps something happened in our lives that made us feel God was either not there or just not there for us? Regardless of how that childish faith is lessened in our lives, the fact that it is indeed less should be an area of our concern.

The Bible reads that we must receive the kingdom as a little child. I believe that means that we must somehow find our child-like faith again. We must Look to the things of God and his Word, and just as we did as children. We must believe with all that is in us.

We must be as stubborn as the meanest bull, refusing to accept the lies of Satan and his minions. The enemy of God will throw every doubting thought he can muster up, but we must know- that we know- our God is alive and real.

God wants us to stop searching for proof of his existence, and as a child simply reach and believe. Some would say in this world, to do that would be foolish. To believe in something without total proof is crazy. But the scripture above says we must. Many say they will not believe if they can not see, feel, or touch it.

Yet the wind can not be seen in itself, but the results of the wind moving can be seen in the trees and surroundings, and can often be a force to reckon with. We can not see it, but we know that it is there. The very movement of the planets and its perfect order show the hand of a loving creator. The life we see around us in all its remarkable glory perhaps not showing God himself, but most assuredly the results of his existence.

Are you having a hard time in believing today? Has the enemy struck you with all his might? God knows each of our hearts, and he is faithful to supply our needs. Do you need a refreshing of your faith? I know where the well of never ending water is.

Take a little time and let us search ourselves. There is nothing wrong in asking for help. Our father in Heaven loves his children, and wants to give us good things. Though we do have a responsibility for people and this world, we can not allow the things of either to alter our knowledge of the truth.

We all start with a measure of faith and like a seed we can cultivate it or destroy it. We must protect it from the harmful elements and tend to its care. Faith is just like the seed. We must feed our spirit with the good things of God, and reject the things that will only choke it.
