The Love That God Hates

by Dennis Michelson
(Painesville, Ohio)

I John 2:15-17

Introduction: Fundamentalism has long been heavy on condemning actions and short on revealing attitudes. This is especially true when it comes to the biblical concept of "worldliness." It would be interesting to survey one hundred conservative churches (and schools) and ask them to list what they considered to be "worldly."

I am convinced that no two lists would match perfectly. Bad actions always stem from bad attitudes - or, to put it another way - wrong belief drives wrong behavior. Believers need to change their perspective on what the "world" has to offer. When they do then they will act (and obey) accordingly.

1. The Loves Contrasted (2:15)

a. The Command - Love not the world

b. The Condition - If any may love the world.

c. The Consequence - The love of the Father is not in him.

2. The Lusts Condemned (2:16)

a. The Flesh

b. The Eyes

c. The Pride of Life

3. The Lessons Considered (2:17)

a. The "world" is passing away (Passing)

b. The will of God abides (Permanent)

Eternal Perspective
by: Dee Hawes, Sr.

Randy Alcorn said in a book that we will not be in heaven 5 seconds before we realize how we should have lived on earth.

What we believe about heaven and Jesus Christ should dictate how we live. I must confess that I do not always live in eternal perspectives.
