Trust in the Lord

Proverbs 3:5-6
New International Version (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
 and lean not on your own understanding;6in all your ways submit to him,
 and he will make your paths straight.

Context :
• Here we have King Solomon words before us
• He wrote the Proverbs for a Special Son He had (My son)
o He mentions my son 27 times in the book of proverbs
• He wanted to give his son a gift of wisdom
• Wisdom is one of the greatest gift you can give to your children
• Wisdom will set up your children for life
• There is not much wisdom in this world
• Specially in the modern world
• Everything is done without wisdom
• What is Biblical Wisdom?
o It’s the ability to ask the Lord what is right and wrong
o And choosing what the Lord considers right
o And obeying it to the letter
o Knowing what’s wrong
o And avoiding it.

Introduction:
Here we have in the text we have 4 bits of Advise and one Promise
1. Trust in the Lord
2. With all your Heart
3. Not lean on your own understanding
4. In all your ways submit to him
5. Then God makes a promise
a. He will make path straight

1. Trust in the Lord

Why did God allow this Phrase into our text this morning?
a It is not easy to trust the Lord
b Trusting the Lord is an old problem
c That dates back almost 5 thousand years ago
d Since God created the world in Genesis
e And put Man in this world
f We are basically in the mess of sin
g Because Adam and Eve did not trust God
h Instead of asking God, can we eat the fruit
i They Trusted the words of the Devil the snake
j We have the problem of not trusting God
k God knows this
l And everywhere God can, he puts reminders of trusting him
m We can see this in many passages in scripture

What are some of things people trust?
a People trust in what they can see
b People trust in what they can touch
c People trust in smell
d People trust in feelings
e On there emotions
f People trust in what the can hear
g People trust in there friends
h People trust money (If I have money I will be happy)
i Many people trust in witchcraft
j Some people don’t trust on anything
k But the text tells us to trust n the Lord

Why do people find it hard to trust in the Lord?
a Because they cant see the Lord
b Because some have never seen God at work
c People forget what God has done in the past
d Because Man wants to be in control his life
e God's ways don't always make sense to us
f God works on a different timetable than our minds comprehend


What are you doing when you are trusting God?
a You are exercising faith
b The Bible says without faith you cannot please God
c When you trust God you’re telling God you trust him
d You’re surrendering your life to God
e You’re making God happy
f You’re telling him that you love him
g You’re telling God that you want him in the picture

How do you know you are not trusting God?
a You get angry
b you become afraid
c You become anxious
d You can’t sleep at night
e You have no peace in your heart
f You are worried
g You have high blood pressure
h You cry a lot
i You complain
j You’re not satisfied
k You go to different places for advice
l You don’t pray
m You don’t read your bible
n You say why me Lord.
o You don’t come to church

How do you know you are trusting God?
a Let’s look at the Enoch life – you’re be like Enoch

Genesis 5:24
New International Version
Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

b You will be like the apostle Paul
c I’ve learned to be contented in everything

Philippians 4:11
New Century Version (NCV)
11 I am not telling you this because I need anything. I have learned to be satisfied with the things I have and with everything that happens. 

What are the benefits of trusting the Lord?

a There is joy

Psalm 5:11
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

b Deliverance

Psalm 22:4-5
4 In You our fathers trusted;
They trusted and You delivered them.5 To You they cried out and were delivered;
 In You they trusted and were not disappointed.

c There is God's Goodness

Psalm 31:19
19 How great is Your goodness,
Which You have stored up for those who fear You,
Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You,
Before the sons of men!

d God will provide for you and give you your hearts desire

Psalm 37:3-5
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
 Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord;
 And He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord,
 Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

e There is safety if you trust in the Lord

Psalm 56:4
4 In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere man do to me?

f If you trust in the Lord you become useful to God

Psalm 73:28
28 But I am close to God, and that is good.
 The Lord God is my protection. I will tell all that you have done.

g If you trust in the Lord he will Guide you Prov. 3:5-6

2. With all your Heart (leb= Hebrew word)

a. Man as another problem
b. Not only do we have problems trusting God
c. But we have problems trusting God with all your heart
d. How are we to trust God?
e. With everything you have
f. With all your mind
g. With all your strength
h. With all your Soul
i. With all your Knowledge,
j. With all your Thinking,
k. Reflection,
l. With all your Memory
m. With all your Conscience
n. With all your Emotions
o. All your excitement
p. With all your Carriage
q. With all feeling
r. With life
s. With Joy
t. With cheerfulness
u. With Gladness
v. With motivation

i. Many are not motivated to follow God
ii. Because they don’t have the heart to do so
iii. What motivates the Christian to trust God
iv. A Relationship with God
v. Praying
vi. Reading the bible
vii. Studying the Bible
viii. Putting into practice what God says
ix. Seeing God at work


3. Lean not on your own understanding

a. I love the bible how its written
b. I love author of the Bible who wrote it
c. God knows us really Good
d. God understands us totally even before He sent Jesus on earth
e. Why you might say?

God knows us
a. God knows man does not trust him
b. God knows we have lack of motivation to trust him
c. And God knows how we act
d. And how we think
e. We tend to lean only on our own understanding
f. And this is why he gives us this advice
g. Don’t lean on your own understanding
h. Man try’s to calculate things in his own mind
i. That is good we can think things through
j. But Man does something wrong in his thinking
k. He leave God out of the picture all the time
l. I have seen non Christians do this
m. Sadly I have seen Christians do this
n. I have seen pastor do this
o. I have seen people many years in the faith do this
p. They leave God out of the picture
q. And they only put God in the picture when something goes wrong
r. Or there planes goes wrong

What is this text saying?
a. Don’t lean on your own understanding
b. Put God in the picture
c. Wait for God
d. Wait for Gods outcome

Prov 16:1
We may make our plans, but God has the last word.

4. In all your ways submit to him

a. This very hard to do
b. If we do the 3 steps
i. Trust in the Lord
ii. With all your Heart
iii. And Lean not to your own understanding

c. Then the Next step is easy
d. But if you don’t this is Hard
e. Submit
f. Submission is very hard today
g. Everyone has the own will
h. I see it in my own kids
i. They find it hard to submit

What is submission?
a. To submit is a military term
b. To be under someone else
c. To submit is
i. To give up your rights and give them to God
ii. My desires give them to God
iii. My Rights give them to God
iv. My Plans give them to God
v. My feelings give them to God
vi. And to live For God only

What is Submission?
a. Its painful
b. Its Dying to yourself and letting God control everything

Luke 9:23
New International Version (NIV)
23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

What is this part of the text saying?
a. Before you do anything
b. Bring it all to God for approval
c. Everything

As Christians we must follow Pressure
a. What is the Pressure?
b. Everything you do you must ask God for permission
c. Failure to do so will lead you into trouble
d. Are we like little children?
e. Mummy can I do this?
f. Or Daddy can I do that?

5. Then God makes His promise

a. He will make your path straight

Do you want God to bless your plans?

You must follow the full pressure to Receive God blessings
