Mark Hollingsworth here. I hope you are looking forward to a great Sunday and are having a great New Year. It's still not too late to preach a New Year's sermon.

2 Tim. 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Happy New Year!
from the Hollingsworth Family.

2 Tim. 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

What's New at Preachology.com?

I mentioned last time that we moved back to the town I grew up in (Bogalusa, Louisiana) and I am the Chaplain of a State Prison located in the area, as well as Pastor of a local Church. We are very, very busy but the Lord is very, very good.

This weekend we are having a "One Day With God" camp to get the prisoners who are Dads connected with their children for a day. We teach the Dad's how to love their children and try to break the cycle of prisoner's kids ending up in prison (It is a high percentage at this time!). Pray with us for this weekend.

Let me remind you once again preachers and teachers that you can now have your own Preachology sermon web page. If you submit 15 or more sermons on the "Your Sermons" page (and let me know you have submitted 15 sermons), I will then move your sermons to a page of your own where you can continue to add sermons and invite your family, friends, and followers to view your work. When they visit your page, they can make comments about each of your sermons.

Several preachers have now submitted 15 sermons and have their own sermon web page. They have submitted some great sermons. Check them out and then get your own page!

No promises WHEN but I'm still working on it and it WILL happen! ...PREACHOLOGY BIBLE INSTITUTE...

No dates for our Bible Institute to be up and running, but it was delayed because of our move to South Louisiana and taking on two new ministries. Keep praying that we get it off the ground soon. But I promise it will happen... and hopefully it will be fairly soon! Pray for me!

In the near future you can start and/or continue your ministry education right here at Preachology Bible Institute. We will have a Certificate Program and a Diploma Program, depending on whether you just want to study the Bible and receive a certificate of achievement or whether you want to pursue a diploma that can lead to a bachelor's, master's, and/or doctor's degree. Look for all the details on this ezine and on our website very soon.

There are more outlines at the "Bible Study Outlines" page where I share my skeleton outlines and there are more outlines at the "Your Skeleton Outline Page" where you can share your great skeleton outlines with all of us.

I also just recently added some more material at preachology.com on the FREE SERMON ILLUSTRATIONS page. There is also new material at the YOUR SERMONS page. There are new sermons there from several different preachers.

Go to the... Free Sermons ...page to get the new sermons and come often because we will soon add more. Take a look. There are some new sermons there now.

Subscribe to my free newsletter and receive even more sermons, outlines, notes, and ideas on a regular basis emailed directly to you. If you subscribe, you will also be able to access "The Preaching Ezine" archives where you will find even more sermon material (not on the website), sent out in the past. I'll also give you a free copy of E. M. Bounds book "Power Through Prayer."

YOUR SERMONS, OUTLINES, and ILLUSTRATIONS:
Preachers, let's be an encouragement to other preachers by sharing our sermons and outlines and commenting positively about other preacher's sermons.

I love to read other preacher's sermons as devotionals for my own personal spiritual growth and also to get ideas for developing sermons of my own.

Go to the... Your Sermons ...page to submit your sermons and outlines and be a blessing to other preachers. There are some new sermons there right now!

Go to the... Your Skeleton Outlines ...page to submit your skeleton outlines and be a blessing to other preachers. There are some new skeleton sermons there right now!

Go to the... Your Illustrations ...page to submit your sermon illustrations and be a blessing to other preachers. There are some new illustrations there right now!

Until next time... here, there, or in the air!

Well, that's about it for now.

Do you have any comments, ideas, or feedback? I'd love to hear from you personally and thanks to you who have made contact with us. It truly is a blessing and encouragement to us.

You can either reply to this ezine or go to the form on the "Contact Me" page on my website and tell me what you think.

Yours for Powerful Preaching,

Sermon Notes:

Are You Ready for the New Year?

Joshua 1:1-11

Need: We need to get ready for the New Year. BI: Getting ready for the New Year means following God.

I. We must Prepare (v.11)

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

God needs his children to prepare. God will prepare you if you let him.

God the Father knows the implications of preparation: …Moses was prepared 40 years before he delivered Israel from Egypt.

Galatians 4:4 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Jesus knows the implication of preparation: …Jesus prepared the Twelve long before the Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Holy Spirit knows the implication of preparation: …Paul was prepared and led by the Spirit.

Acts 16:7-10 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

The Devil knows the implications of preparation: That’s why he gets you to quit if he can. You will have financial trouble, physical trouble, emotional trouble, spiritual trouble, etc.

Prepare food…not weapons but victuals. You will need food when you get on the battle field and wherever you go.

Jeremiah 15:16 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

Others will need food as well…Jesus said, ”If you love me, feed my sheep.”

1 Cor. 3:1-6 1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

For the Carnal give milk. It is already predigested. For the Spiritual give meat. It is harder to prepare but they can digest it. For the Lost give seed and water.

Need: We need to get ready for the New Year. BI: Getting ready for the New Year means following God.

II. We must Pass (v.11)

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

2 Timothy 2:15 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Failure doesn’t glorify God. Failure is a Sin.

James 1:22 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

God wants you to be a success.

Joshua 1:8 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Poverty is not Spiritual. Failure is not Spiritual.

Psalm 1:3 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Pass over Jordan to Pass. Jordan is death…death to self…death to failure…and alive to Spiritual Success and Fellowship with God.

Joshua 1:11 11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

It took three days to prepare. It will take consistency and persistence. Paul said, “I die daily.”

Need: We need to get ready for the New Year. BI: Getting ready for the New Year means following God.

III. We must Possess. (v.11)

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

You’ve got to possess what God gives you. There’s a difference between owning something and possessing something.

There are millions of dollars of dormant bank accounts of people who forgot them or messed up the accounts or moved. They will never possess their money.’’

Joshua 1:15 15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord 's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

Possess means to have and enjoy what you own.

I own several books that I don’t possess. I loaned them out and they were never returned. I never got them back!

1 Timothy 6:17-19 17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life

You possess by preparing and passing.

Joshua prepared, passed, and possessed. That’s what we need to do in this new year to be ready to serve God.

Need: We need to get ready for the New Year. BI: Getting ready for the New Year means following God.
