My Fight For Joy

by John G
(Wheaton, Ill)

The searing pain of emptiness burns at the innermost part of my being

My soul longs in agony for some sense of peace in this life

But the idols of my heart have left me frustrated and despaired

All day long my faith is under attack by doubts of Your faithfulness

I lack the strength to enjoy You, O Lord

I've pulled my hair and banged my fist against my forehead and buried my head under my pillow at night

O how I would love to seek, savor and serve You, O God

But yet my hard heart won't move!

I beg You, Lord, remove the idols of my heart that I've trusted in all my life

Lift me out of this dark depression and cause me to believe again

Put in me a joyful passion for Your glory

The Joy in the Lord
by: Anonymous

Luke 15:3 So Jesus told them this story:4 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?5 And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.6 When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’

1 Peter 4:7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.

13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.
14 So be happy when you are insulted for being a Christian,t for then the glorious Spirit of Godt rests upon you.t15 If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.16 But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!17 For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s household. And if judgment begins with us, what terrible fate awaits those who have never obeyed God’s Good News?

18 And also,
“If the righteous are barely saved,
what will happen to godless sinners?”t

19 So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.
