Our Heart Is Not Turned Back

by Dennis Michelson
(Novelty, Ohio)

Psalm 44:18 - Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way.

Introduction: True believers will move forward in the ways of God in spite of afflictions, troubles and discouragements.

1. Because Our Hearts Are Changed

a. We will hate all sin, even those we cannot conquer and we will love all truth even those we cannot practice.

b. We will serve God for Who He is rather than serve Him for what we get.

c. We will examine the inner heart primarily and will wash the hands secondarily.

d. We will neither be overly anxious or overly depressed.

2. Because God's Ways Are Best

a. It is the way of blessing (Proverbs 8:32)

b. It is the way of refreshment (Jeremiah 6:16)

c. It is the way of mystery (Isaiah 55:8-9)

d. It is the way of strength (Proverbs 10:29)

e. It is the way of persecution (Acts 19:9; 24:14)

3. Because Pressing On Is The Only Option

a. Because we are in a race (I Cor. 9:24; Heb. 12:1)

b. Because of our reward (Revelation 2:20; 3:5)

c. Because it is right (Psalm 18:30)

d. Because we are regenerate (Jeremiah 32:39-40)

e. Because we remember (Psalm 77)

Conclusion: Note carefully the distinction between the spirit of those in Psalm 78:9 as contrasted with those in Malachi 3:16-18.
