TURNING BACK THE CLOCK

O just to go back to those good old days,
When we were all set in our youthful ways.
When women were women, men were men,
When chewing gum in school was our only sin.
When Mom really had spun grey hair,
When Dad didn't have much hair to spare.
When Mom would call us in for supper at night,
When hearing her voice was a real nice delight.
When we would climb up those big old trees,
When we would slide down the limbs with ease.
When we would play the game of hide-and-seek,
When behind the trees we would all wait to peek.
When going downtown seemed so very far away,
When riding that big bus just made for a happy day.
When we would catch lightning bugs in a glass jug,
When in the dim star light we would sneak a big hug.
When the drug stores had a real ice cream fountain,
When ice cream cones were as high as a mountain.
When the big penny candy was really only one cent,
When nickel soda pop was money that was well spent.
When we would read those comic books by the ton,
When we would all meet just to read out loud for fun.
When chocolate milk was delivered to our front door,
When groceries were delivered from the grocery store.
When these things bring us a smile as they are told,
When then it simply means we are getting old.
O just to go back to those good old days,
When we were all set in our youthful ways.

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)

The older I get, the more childhood experiences I seem to recall. Although psychologists may label this phenomenon "vivid recall," I simply call it bringing back enjoyable pleasant childhood memories.

And too, the older I get, the more I relive my past, like tuning the vehicle radio to the 50's station, as I start my drive, and returning to my yesteryear experiences that are associated with the various 50's music memories.

One thing is certain, however, we may temporarily go back in time via our memories. But we will never go back physically. What's done, is done, be it good or bad. (Ecclesiastes 7:10)

Money may be restored. Property may be restored. Broken-down cars restored. Old houses, painted as well. And most importantly, relationships may be restored. But one thing that can never be restored is time. Time flies and it does not return. Years pass and we never get them back. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)

Someone once said, "the reason time flies, is because we are always trying to kill it." Enough said!

A parting thought: In Jesus, your days ahead are greater than your days gone by.

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all." (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
